Skin Emergencies (Go to ER/Call 911):

Seek immediate care at ER if you experience a rash with any of these: 

  • Breathing Problems: Difficulty breathing, wheezing, chest tightness.

  • Severe Swelling: Face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling (anaphylaxis).

  • Widespread Blisters/Peeling: Especially with fever, mouth sores, or skin sloughing off (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis).

  • High Fever & Purple Spots: Rapidly spreading purple spots (Meningococcemia).

  • Extreme Pain & Rapid Spread: Deep, painful redness that spreads fast (Necrotizing Fasciitis).

  • Systemic Symptoms: Confusion, severe headache, joint pain, or high fever with the rash.

  • Immunocompromised: Developing a rash after recent illness, surgery, or cancer treatment.
